What is the CCSE Exam?
The CCSE exam (Constitutional and Sociocultural Knowledge of Spain) is an official test created by the Instituto Cervantes.
It assesses your knowledge of the Spanish Constitution, government, democratic values, culture, history and society.
The CCSE exam is a mandatory requirement for:
Applying for Spanish citizenship by residency
Applying for citizenship as a descendant of Sephardic Jews originally from Spain

The CCSE test consists of:
25 multiple-choice or true/false questions
Passing score: 15 correct answers or more
Duration: 45 minutes
Format: Paper-based, in-person exam
The exam covers two key areas:
Government, laws and citizen participation in Spain
Culture, history, geography and daily life in Spain
The Instituto Cervantes schedules the CCSE exam once a month, except in August and December.
Registration must be completed at least 3 weeks before the chosen exam date.

To sit the CCSE exam, you must present:
Valid and original ID
(Passport and/or NIE with photo)
Proof of registration
(Downloaded from your Instituto Cervantes account after signing up)
You will not be allowed to take the exam without these documents.
You don’t need to bring pencils, erasers or paper. All exam materials will be provided by Freeda on the day of the test.
The exam results are usually released within approximately 20 working days after the exam date.
You can check your results by logging into your personal account on the Instituto Cervantes website.
If you pass, you will receive an official digital certificate, which you can use for your Spanish nationality application.
