Residence registration (padrón) is the first step in obtaining a student card (TIE).
To apply for a student card, you need a residence permit (empadronamiento or padrón).
To apply for a residence permit, you have to go to the municipality of any neighbourhood in Barcelona. It used to be possible to drop in on your way to language school, but now you have to make an appointment with the date and time of your visit. You can do this on the municipality's website.
You need to click on Solicitud de una cita and a form will appear in which you need to enter your data
In the subject field select OAC: Atención presencial en la oficina and in the subtopic field select Padrón: Alta/Cambio de domicilio.
The site will suggest the available date and location options. After selecting the time, confirmation information will appear on the screen.
It is necessary to check the data carefully to avoid a second trip to the municipality and press the enviar button. Confirmation of the appointment will be sent to your email.
The following documents will be needed to obtain a registration:
Passport and a copy of the main page
Proof of address:
If you are a tenant, a rental contract obviously stating your name and ID detail
If you are an owner, proof of property ownership (Nota Simple)
A record with date and time (how to get this record, we described above)
Important! If the housing contract was concluded more than a year ago, it is necessary to provide the last two paid receipts for light, water or gas.

What if you do not have a housing contract, but a friend or acquaintance has offered to help you with registration?
In this case, the friend or acquaintance should also come to the municipality, taking with him a couple of additional papers.
Will be necessary:
Rental contract
Passport of the person to be registered and of the person who is registering (with copies).
The last paid receipts for electricity, water or gas if the tenancy agreement was signed more than a year ago.
If a friend or acquaintance is the owner of the flat, the documents proving ownership are required instead of the rental agreement (Nota Simple).
Fill out the form and we will contact you to discuss any questions you may have.
