A Summer Day Trip from Barcelona + the Camí de Ronda
If you ask our students what summer in Barcelona really feels like, it’s not only beaches in the city or tourist checklists. Sometimes it’s getting on a bus together, leaving the heat behind for a few hours, and arriving somewhere that looks like a postcard.
That’s exactly what we did this summer at Freeda: a day trip from Barcelona to the Costa Brava, with students from different countries, different levels of Spanish, and one shared plan — walk part of the Camí de Ronda, swim in a hidden cove, and end the day with a long lunch by the sea.
It turned into one of those days that feels simple while it’s happening… and then suddenly becomes a core memory.
The Morning: One Bus, Many Countries, One Summer Plan
We met in Barcelona early, still half-asleep, carrying the essentials: water bottles, sunscreen, towels, and that “is it going to be hot today?” feeling.
On the bus, you could hear a mix of languages — English, Spanish, bits of everything — because our group was made of students from different countries who all have one thing in common: they’re living in Barcelona and learning Spanish while building a life here.
Some people already knew each other from class. Others were meeting for the first time. But that’s the magic of these trips: it never takes long before everyone starts talking — sharing snacks, comparing playlists, asking the classic questions:
“Where are you from?”
“How long have you been in Barcelona?”
“What brought you here?”
And before we even arrived, the group already felt like a group.
The Walk: Camí de Ronda Views + Real Conversations
When we started walking the Camí de Ronda, it was one of those “okay, wow” moments.
The trail runs along the coast, and in summer it’s basically a highlight reel of:
-
sea views almost the entire way
-
cliffs and pine trees
-
small coves hidden below the path
-
endless photo stops (because… you’ll understand when you’re there)
The best part? Spanish happens without forcing it.
Not the “repeat after me” Spanish. The real kind:
-
“Wait, which way is it?”
-
“Do you want to stop here?”
-
“Look at this view!”
-
“Let’s take a photo together.”
Some students were speaking confidently, others more quietly — but everyone was communicating. And everyone was included.
The Swim Stop: That Costa Brava Water Hit Different
After the walk, we reached a cove and it was instantly clear what everyone was thinking: we’re getting in.
The water was turquoise, clean, and shockingly refreshing in the best way. Some students jumped straight in like they’d been waiting for that moment all week. Others stayed on the rocks, drying in the sun, laughing, talking, taking photos — just enjoying that calm, coastal energy you don’t really get on city beaches.
No rush. No schedule pressure. Just a shared pause.
The Long Lunch: Stories, Laughter, and That “This Is Why I Moved Here” Feeling
Then came the part that always makes these trips feel special: lunch together by the sea.
Food, cold drinks, tired legs, salty hair, and conversations that got deeper now that everyone had walked, swum, and experienced the day together.
This is when people start sharing real stories:
-
what it’s like to move to Barcelona
-
how it feels to start a new life in a new language
-
what they’re learning — not just in Spanish, but in general
It’s also when you realize: these activities aren’t “extra.”
They are student life in Barcelona.
Watch How It Really Was
We captured the day on video: the bus ride, the walk along the Camí de Ronda, the swim, the landscapes — and most importantly, the atmosphere and the students’ real reactions.

Why We Do Trips Like This at Freeda
At Freeda, we organise activities like this because language learning isn’t only what happens in a classroom.
It’s what happens when you:
-
spend a full day together
-
talk to people from different countries
-
use Spanish naturally, without pressure
-
build community while exploring Catalonia
You can study Spanish anywhere.
But living it — that’s different.
