Escape Barcelona and Practice Spanish in the Mountains
Many people think learning Spanish in Barcelona is limited to classrooms and textbooks. But at Freeda Space, we believe the fastest way to break the language barrier is to step outside. Language immersion is most effective when you combine theory with a real-life adventure.
Montseny Natural Park: Digital Detox and Spanish Practice
Located just an hour away from Barcelona, Montseny is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. For our students, it’s not just a hike; it’s a “living” language lesson in a setting of total mental recharge.
Pro Tip: There is almost no mobile signal on most of the trails. It’s the perfect excuse to put your phone away and communicate with others exclusively in Spanish without distractions.
See It in Action (Our Hiking Vlog)
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but a video is worth even more. We captured the essence of our hike: the colorful autumn forest, the picnic on the cliffside, and the genuine emotions of our international team.

How to Get to Montseny from Barcelona (Our Experience)
We chose the most convenient and budget-friendly way, perfect for any student or solo traveler:
-
Renfe Train: Take the train from Barcelona to Sant Celoni station.
-
Special Shuttle Bus: Right outside the station, hop on the bus that takes you directly to the top of the park.
Travel Hack: We highly recommend buying the “Billete Combinado” (Combined Ticket). It includes the price of both the train and the shuttle bus (round trip). It saves you the headache of buying separate tickets and helps you save money!
Lunch with the Best View in Catalonia
Forget about busy restaurants. We organized a picnic on the plateau. Everyone brought their own snacks (sandwiches, fruit, nuts), and we ate right on the edge of a cliff with a breathtaking view of the vibrant autumn forest.
This is the best moment for informal conversation. Sharing food and experiences makes new Spanish vocabulary stick much faster than any exercise in a book.
Your Vocabulary After One Hike:
-
Árbol (Tree) & Bosque (Forest).
-
Setas (Mushrooms) — there are thousands in Montseny during autumn.
-
Castañas (Chestnuts) — a classic symbol of Catalan fall.
-
Vistas espectaculares (Spectacular views) — you’ll be saying this at every turn.
-
Sin cobertura (No signal) — the phrase of the day for a total detox.
Why Freeda Hiking Trips Improve Your Spanish
Research shows that experiential learning builds confidence. In class, you study grammar; on a hike, you actually use it to discuss the route, share food, or describe the scenery.
-
Stress-Free Practice: In the forest, there are no “strict teachers,” only friends and support.
-
Emotional Connection: You’ll never forget words like “peak” or “cliff” when you learn them while standing on one.
-
International Community: On these trails, students from all over the world become a real family.
